The arts are coming alive again every first Friday of the month on Court Street in downtown Florence.

First Fridays, which take place on the first Friday of every month, is sponsored by Downtown Florence Unlimited and organized by president Lori Davis.

"It is an opportunity for artists and musicians to sell and demonstrate their art and play their music, and for people to experience the beautiful historic downtown we have," said Davis.

The monthly art and music nights stemmed from the Main Street Program's Art Nights, which happened every Thursday in October of last year. It has now progressed into the First Fridays, which started again in August and will last year round.

Tommy Wright, moderator of the Shoals Arts Network online community (www.groups.yahoo.com/ group.shoalsartsnetwork), sells his artwork at First Fridays. He is pleased with the response that First Fridays has gotten from artists and the community.

"We've been really knocked out by the results we're getting. I encourage students who want to participate to do so. It's a great way to pick up a little extra cash," said Wright. "It's something positive we can all get behind."

Participation in First Fridays is open to any age group and all kinds of art and music. For more information, contact Lori Davis at the Lori Davis Gallery 256-766-7410.
