The UNA chapter of Phi Beta Lambda recently brought home several awards from the Alabama state competition, with each of the 12 UNA students competing placing in the state's top three in at least one of their two events. Eleven qualified to compete at the National Phi Beta Lambda competition, to be held in Atlanta next month.

UNA has a public safety department that is armed and on duty 24/7, and they are there for security on campus. David Shields, vice president of student affairs, and public safety have tips for new students coming to UNA. Shields said that students have to be looking around for things that seem odd.

Swinging a hammer hasn't always been a way to earn university credit hours. But that's exactly how one group of UNA students will spend valuable class time this summer. Service Learning 101, being offered in June, will be a two-part course, beginning in the classroom and then moving to the building site for the solar-powered Habitat for Humanity home.
