President William G. Cale Jr.

I am delighted to invite you to explore the diversity of courses that the University of North Alabama is offering this year. UNA is an outstanding university, priding itself on 178 years of commitment to northwest Alabama, to student learning in an environment of small classes taught by devoted faculty members, and to extracurricular opportunities that enrich the college experience. This is a university on the move, with enrollment reaching the highest ever at over 7,300 students. Recognition of our excellence is evidenced by our national accreditations and by our classification as a Top Tier university in U.S. News and World Report's listing of "America's Best Colleges."

UNA is a special place, one that I hope you have experienced personally. A visit to campus will give you a sense of our history as it has unfolded in this beautiful setting. The pride we take in this place is a mirror of the pride we take in our college community. Come and feel the spirit of Lion country.

The University of North Alabama is a comprehensive regional state university, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees, and serving the educational needs of both residential and commuting students. Academic programs and courses are available on a full-time and part-time basis. UNA has increased significantly its number of nontraditional students. Many of these students are older than traditional students and often attend on a part-time basis due to work, family, or other commitments. UNA offers many courses in the evenings to accommodate nontraditional students. Please consider the following advantages of attending UNA:

All classes are taught by faculty members with solid academic and professional credentials; 48 percent of the classes have fewer than 20 students.

The student to teacher ratio is 21:1.

Approximately 67 percent of the faculty is full-time, allowing each one to devote their full energies to students and other educational pursuits.

The University of North Alabama is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Ga., 30033-4097; telephone number 404.679.4500) to award bachelor's, master's, and education specialist degrees. All academic programs are fully approved by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.

Tuition is modest compared with other universities, and student financial assistance is available. All students have access to state-of-the-art computer laboratories and to the Internet.
