The shot heard around the basketball world

The North Alabama men’s basketball team defeated Stetson when freshman Christian Agnew hit a 45-foot shot from half court with over 1,200 fans in the stands.

North Alabama had a 5 point advantage over Stetson Hatters leading into the break at 32-27. The Hatters came out of the half on a 14-0 run against the Lions making it 41-32 at the 15 minute mark.

Guard Tavon King helped the Lions take the lead with a floater down the lane that sparked a 12-point run to put UNA on top 44-43.

The Hatters did not slow as they increased their lead to 57-49 with just over five minutes to play.

The Lions made their own case as forward Kendall Stafford made a three-pointer to shorten the lead 61-58 with under two minutes to play.

Forward Emanuel Littles hit two free throws that cut the lead down to one point with 16.6 seconds left in the game. Stetson got a foul with six seconds left to shoot two free throws.

Stetson hit one of two free throws to lift the team to a 62-60 lead with under 10 seconds to play.

Stetson guard Kenny Aninye missed both free throws. The second bounced off the rim and into the corner of the court. Christian Agnew grabbed the long defensive rebound and moved to half court with the ball.

Agnew shot at half court, banking the ball off the backboard and into the net to lift the Lions basketball team to a 63-62 win.

North Alabama has won four straight games in ASUN play to lift them to third overall in the conference behind Liberty (16-4) and Lipscomb (13-4), both undefeated in ASUN play.

The Lions overall record is 7-13 and they are 4-1 in the ASUN conference. North Alabama plays their next home game against Kennesaw State Jan. 24.
